Ciao everyone!

I’m Greta, I’m 28, I’m Italian and the new European Solidarity Corps volunteer at Stadtjugendring!

A few weeks ago, I packed up my life and moved to Germany to spend a year doing something new, challenging myself, and, most importantly, investing in myself. Which sounds like a very mature and well-thought-out decision. And I definetely agree! But that doesn’t mean that the scary part is done. The challenge just started (And I’m enjoying it).

I’m a very communicative person. I love talking, meeting new people, sharing ideas, and expressing myself, so naturally, I decided to move somewhere where I can’t yet do all those things as easily as I’d like.. Did I mention the challenging part?

Learning German is one of my personal main goals for this year, and I’m trying to remind myself that struggling to find the right words is part of the process and I seem to be in the perfect place to achieve this goal of mine.

A little more about me: I’m into cinema, theatre, music, vintage fashion, and anything that lets me explore my creative side. I’ve been writing since I was little, and it’s always been my favourite way to clear my head and make clearer sense of what’s going on inside it.

That’s why starting this blog feels quite natural, even if putting personal experiences into words that will be read by somebody else can be a little more complicated than expected.

Work-wise, I’m only at the beginning of my journey at SJR, and there’s somuch to discover. I’m particularly enjoying the creative and project-making side of things here. And of course, the connections that I’m forming. SJR feels like a book I just started reading: the characters are starting to become familiar, the plot is unfolding, and I’m curious to see where I’ll fit into the story.

At events, in the office, and in everyday conversations, I’m learning to accept that sometimes my presence and my actions will have to speak for me until my German catches up. It’s a little uncomfortable, but it’s also teaching me that I don’t have to be good at everything in the beginning. I just have to keep showing up, and since im enjoying it, there’s no rush.

This is probably what I’m most grateful for so far: having finally made the decision to give myself this experience, without needing to know exactly what’s going to happen. I want to learn, meet people, make mistakes, discover new perspectives, and give myself the space to grow.

So, here’s to new beginnings, unfamiliar words, creative thoughts, connections that will eventually become (hopefully) great memories.
